This is a book about how Tivoli was founded at "Dronningens Enghave" outside the western citygate of Copenhagen in 1843. The architect behind Carstensen's amusement park was H.C. Stilling. At the time he was 27 years old and it was his first project as an architect and a garden architect. The book describes the history of Tivoli, the original foundation plan with the buildings and the variety of pavilions and fun fares. It also explains the ideas behind and the reaction to it in contemporary journals and magazines. Most of the ideas have survived, but the buildings and pavilions in light wooden constructions exist no longer.
