Bob Foster is a well known figure at book and print signings in many parts of the UK. Although recognized as a Battle of Britain veteran, little is known of his life, or the details of his war service with the RAF. Often serving right up in the front lines, Bob saw the war at very close hand, and then quite by chance became one of the first, if not the first RAF officer to enter Paris with the liberating French army, and again, by chance, was in General de Gaulle’s triumphant procession down the Champs-Élysées. Des Curtis was one of the founder members of 618 Squadron. Formed within days of the illustrious 617, 618's primary objective was to mount a daylight low-level attack by Mosquitos on the German battleship Tirpitz within hours of the attack on the Ruhr dams. The operation, codenamed Operation Servant, was given top security classification, to the point where the subject was excluded from the minutes of the meetings of the Chiefs of Staff of the air and naval forces. The author reveals the dilemmas and conflicting priorities existing to the highest levels, setting out in detail the technicalities of developing the 'bouncing bomb'. Two soldiers manned each gun. As this action was taking place on the ground, we noticed that every guard tower was being reinforced with an additional occupant and the weather cover that normally protected their machine guns had been removed. Each guard in the tower had also been equipped with a rifle. All weapons were pointed in our direction. It was a chilling, sobering experience. We received word from Col. Goodrich that the "passive resistance" was over. The directive did not require repeating. The German commandant had clearly made his point. The prisoner count and subsequent prisoner counts were conducted in an orderly manner. It wasn't until the first week in April 1944, that we were informed that the majority of the escapees from the North Compound had been captured and that fifty men had been murdered on orders from the German High Command. Many of those shot had been prisoners for several years, having been captured early in the war. This unpredictable action by the Germans was devastating news. There was no easy way to overcome the profound effect the deaths of these men had on their close friends and the rest of the prison population. Soon after the United States entered World War II, American ground and air forces were on their way to the European theater of operations. Among that offensive buildup was the 15th Air Force, consisting of four-engine heavy bombers--the B-17 and B-24--as well as twin-engine medium bombers and several types of fighter aircraft. The 15th was first stationed in North Africa and then in southern Italy, where pilots could strike at any military target within a 700 mile radius. After ferrying a B-17 to England with the 8th Air Force, Lt. Edward Logan was transferred to the 15th Air Force, Fifth Wing, 483rd Bomb Group, 817th Bomb Squadron in Italy. This is the wartime autobiography of one of South Africa's most famous pilots. Steve joined the SAAF at the outset of World War II with the desire to become a fighter pilot and to fly in Europe to destroy the Nazi's ambitions of power. However, he was too good a pilot and having gained his wings was posted to become a flying instructor in his native country. After two years he finally arrived in Europe and joined the RAF's Balkan Air Force flying rocket-firing Beaufighters in support of the partisans who were endeavouring to evict the Germans from their homelands. He joined No 19 Squadron under the command of the legendary Don Tilley and flew many missions against enemy shipping, gun emplacements and tactical targets in low-level, surprise rocket attacks. After the war he returned to Africa, flying light aircraft in a variety of roles, but when Berlin was blockaded by the USSR he returned to fly DC-3 Dakotas throughout the Berlin Airlift. This is a story told with a compassion that belies the author's bravery and piloting skills. Throughout the story, his strong Christian belief, as with Leonard Cheshire VC, occasionally surfaces from the heat of battle and narrow escapes from death.

WORLD HISTORY: SECOND WORLD WAR. On the night of 22/23rd April 1944 Tom Wingham was the bomb aimer in the crew of a 76 Squadron Halifax shot down while on the way to bomb Dusseldorf. Tom made his way from Holland, at the hands of The Escape and was then passed via L'Armee Secrete, a London run organisation operating in the east of Belgium, but fell right into the path of the Gestapo. In a deadly game of hide and seek Tom evaded his captors long enough to witness the retreat of German soldiers as he stayed at the house of Madame Schoofs, which became a temporary German HQ. Added to his own experiences their accounts make "Halifax Down!" an extraordinary first hand insight into the experience of a heavy bomber crew shot down in World War Two.

allierede konvojer af handelsskibe – alene i oktober 1942 sænkede de tyske
ubåde 56 handelsskibe i det kolde hav mellem Grønland og Island.
Fra 1939 til 1945 mistede de allierede 3500 handelsskibe og 175 krigsskibe.
Men tyskerne fik svar på tiltale. Da krigen sluttede lå 783 tyske ubåde stille og
udbombede på havets bund.
Langt de fleste af disse skibe og ubåde ligger stadig på havets bund. Nogle
af de fartøjer, der ligger på lavt vand, bliver jævnligt besøgt af dykkere og
marinearkæologer. Fotos og optegnelser fra disse besøg fortæller historien om
skibene og deres mandskab.

Under Anden Verdenskrig deltog hen ved tusind danske statsborgere som frivillige i de allierede styrker i kampen for Danmarks frihed og ære – de fleste i britisk tjeneste. I London forsøgte danskerne at organisere sig i håbet om at kunne rekruttere til en særlig dansk militærenhed under britisk flag. Blandt danskerne uden for det besatte hjemland var der et stort ønske om at vise, at danskerne støttede den allierede sag og gerne støttede op om kampen – også den militære. I For Danmark ære fortælles de frivillige danskeres historie for første gang.

Verdenskrig. Under besættelsen hed den samme lejr Frøslevlejren og husede den tyske besættelsesmagts fanger. Fårhuslejrens indsatte var især i den første tid personer fra det tyske mindretal i Nordslesvig, altså Sønderjylland. Men senere afsonede landssvigere fra hele landet deres straffe i Fårhuslejren, herunder prominente personer som brødrene Bryld, en række intellektuelle og højtstående folk fra SS og Schalburgkorps. Blandt de indsatte var også personer, som havde medvirket til folkedrab og udført tjeneste i tyske kz-lejre. På baggrund af de indsattes fangejournaler får man et indtryk af afsoningsforholdene i Fårhuslejren, og hvordan disse blev oplevet af de indsatte. Afsonernes opfattelse afdækkes fx via beslaglagte breve fra deres journaler. I alt afsonede cirka 4.500 deres straffe i Fårhuslejren, som var den største anstalt for landssvigere. Omkring 3.000 af dem var fra det tyske mindretal i Sønderjylland. Hvor Frøslevlejren for den danske befolkning i almindelighed står som et stærkt symbol på tysk besættelse og dansk modstand, har Fårhuslejren en tilsvarende stærk symbolværdi, især for det tyske mindretal i Sønderjylland, men også for landssvigerfamilier fra det øvrige land. Fårhuslejren blev for dem selve symbolet på retsopgøret efter krigen og den uretfærdighed, de følte sig udsat for. Bogen belyser dette fænomen op til vore dage.
